Furthermore, there are concerns that, in developing countries, basic provisions – such as alleviating poverty and improving environmental and health conditions – in cities will lag behind population growth. This situation is particularly acute as one billion people – one-sixth of the world's population – now live in shanty towns.
With these pressures on urban populations, the need for development that improves the long-term social and ecological health of cities and towns is imperative. With the experience that NORPLAN has built up over a number of years, we are ideally positioned to meet these challenges.
This is particularly true when it comes to sustainable development in urban planning. We recognize that present ways of consumption and living have led to problems including the overuse of natural resources, ecosystem destruction, pollution and growing inequality in cities. Our approach is to consider all aspects of an urban environment and advise accordingly to alleviate these conditions as much as possible.
We are well-versed in the discipline of land use planning, exploring all aspects of the building and social environments of municipalities and communities. NORPLAN professions also deal in more detail with a smaller scale of development, including architecture, landscape architecture and urban design planning.
NORPLAN's professionals cover planning, designing and oversight of a community's or building's construction and we work hard to address both feasibility and costs during the build, as well as function and aesthetics for the end-user. Embracing both buildings and outdoor spaces, our full range of services encompass pre- and feasibility studies; conceptual and detailed design; tender documents; and project supervision.
The discipline that allows both urban and rural developments to function efficiently is a well-functioning transport infrastructure. Our experience includes, but is not limited to, our collaboration in the Norwegian Transportation Network (NTN) - a partnership between Norway's major consultancy companies and the Norwegian Public Roads Administration. Through NTN and other projects and partnerships we have been able to build our expertise so we can offer professional and cost-effective solutions to meet the full range of transport infrastructure demands.
We provide experience at all phases of transportation development, from design, supervision and maintenance, through to feasibility studies for roads and public transport, as well as
Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Used for capturing, storing, analyzing and managing data on both a global or local scale, GIS is a powerful tool for mapping and analysis in support of project planning and decision-making. NORPLAN's highly trained geographic information scientists are able to combine multiple sets of spatial parameters, allowing complex scenarios and alternatives to be presented and evaluated within acceptable cost and time frames. In essence, this means we can help our clients to better coordinate their disparate planning activities across multiple departments and disciplines – to arrive at the best architectural, financial and social solution.
